What are the requirements?

The Explorers are worksite-based program for young men and woman who have completed the eighth grade and are 14 years of age, or are 15 years of age but have not yet reached their 21stbirthday.

Junior Explorers are youth ages 13-14 years old and is currently in either the 7thor 8thgrade. A Junior Explorer is eligible to attend the weekly meetings and any details in Clayton County, however or not eligible for competitions. Upon completion of the 8thgrade and their 14thbirthday the Junior Explorer will graduate to the level of Explorer.

Complete a Clayton County Police Department Background Application Packet.

Must not have a prior conviction for a criminal offense or serious traffic offense. Any criminal arrest or detainment may be grounds for dismissal or rejection of application.

No affiliation or former affiliation with any gangs, cults, or organized crime.

Must have and maintain a minimum of a 2.0 accumulative grade point average (GPA) in high school or college to remain in post.

Must provide a current annual Physical Clearance Form from their physician and complete a basic training course, to ensue physical health and expectations of participation in the program.

Must undergo a thorough background review and provide reference letters (3) from counselors, teachers or employers to support integrity.
