Commanded
by Major Sherman Lemon, a 28 year veteran of the
Clayton County Police Department, the
Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for the investigative
follow up on all incident reports generated by the Uniform Patrol
Division and to ensure that every report written receives the proper
case closure. The Detectives in the Criminal Investigation Division
work diligently to solve crimes reported to the Uniform Division.
The Criminal Investigation Division is subdivided into three sections:
Crimes Against Property, Crimes Against Persons, and Child Abuse
and Sexual Exploitation Investigations (CASEI).
Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Property unit investigate
such acts as burglary, auto theft, financial transaction fraud,
and identity theft. The Crimes Against Property unit is led by Captain
Mark McGann.
Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Persons unit investigate
armed robberies, murder, aggravated assault, rape, family violence
and other crimes against the person. The Crimes Against Persons
unit is led by Captain Richard Gandee.
The Child Abuse and Sexual Exploitation Investigations (CASEI) unit
conducts investigations into reported sexual assaults and exploitation
of children as well as proactively participating in the Georgia
Bureau of Investigation's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)
Task Force.
The CASEI unit is led by Lieutenant Wilfred Norwood.
The Polygraph Unit and the Alcohol Permits Section of the Clayton
County Police Department are both under the control of the Criminal
Investigation Division as well.
